April  5, 2017

  • If you ordered and paid for t-shirt, pick it up in Rm 131 by Friday April 21st.

  • Seniors must come to May meeting for checkout!

New Exec Board:

We are excited to be your 2015-2016 Exec Board! We want to be accessible to you for your questions and suggestions, feel free to text or email us throughout the summer! Here’s a list of our positions:

 

President: Gina Gabrielli

New Attendance Policy:

Starting next fall, all meetings will start promptly at 7:00 AM. The doors will be closed at 7:05 and no one will be admitted after that time. All those who arrive after 7:05 will receive an unexcused absence. All information from the meeting will be emailed to everyone’s school email to inform anyone who missed the meeting of upcoming service.

 

 

Reminder of NHS Pillars:

Scholarship: A commitment to academic excellence which requires dedication to learning through always doing our best work, refraining from cheating, and helping other students achieve academic excellence through our help.

 

Service: A commitment to the community which requires working with adults and peers to improve our community, sacrificing our time to help those in need, and working for the benefit of others without expecting recognition or compensation.

 

Leadership: A commitment to guiding peers through setting a good example in sports, the classroom, and daily life.

 

Character: A commitment to a high standard by making the correct choices daily. This requires respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, and citizenship. It is important to remember to respect all laws and authority over the summer.

 

 

Next Year’s Incentives:

Monthly, the leading house in house points will be awarded a prize! House points are based on:

  • number of service hours recorded by the day before the meeting

  • attendance at meetings

  • participation in other events (i.e. speaker series)

Additionally, each month, a member of the month will be announced and awarded for having the highest contribution of points

 

 

Service:

Summer is a great opportunity to get service hours, especially group service! Below are a list of organizations that would be great places to get involved with over the summer. Also, your house leader will contact you during the summer with 2-3 group service projects. Check the website throughout the summer! (Good for you, because we see you already are!)

 

Shawnee Community Services

Provides food and other supplies to the local needy

Provides lodging for the families of children who are patients at Children’s Mercy Hospital

  • Most individual service would be a weekly/monthly commitment

Wonderscope

A local Children’s Museum

  • Commitment: There will be a group service opportunity over the summer on June 3rd unless told otherwise

 

Jewish Family Services

Provides food for the local needy

Happy Bottoms Diaper Bank

Provides diapers for the babies of impoverished families/ mothers who cannot otherwise afford them

 

Village Presbyterian Food Pantry/ Clothes Closet

Provides the local needy with food and clothing
