Requirements 

 

Northwest Teacher References

 

This part of the application is done for you. All Northwest teachers are given a list of potential candidates names. They are asked to provide input on the candidate's character, participation in activities, and leadership in school.

 

Community Service References

 

Potential candidates must complete 20 hours of service from a minimum of two different service projects. Service hours that are acceptable on the application must have been completed within the last calendar year (Jan. 1, 2015- Today). Service hours must take place outside of the school day and cannot be related to a paid work position. Family members are not an acceptable reference for service hours. 

 

Activity References 

 

Candidates need to list one church, community, or school activity in which they participated in the last school year. Students must have a reference who can verify that this student was an active member of the organization. Family members are not acceptable activity references.

 

Leadership References

 

Candidates must provide reference verification of a leadership role. Acceptable leadership activites may occur as part of a school or extracurricular activity. 

 

IMPORTANT POINT

STUDENTS MAY USE THE SAME INVOLVMENT FOR THEIR LEADERSHIP AND ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS, OR THEIR LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE REQUIREMENTS. SERVICE AND ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS CANNOT BE MET USING THE SAME INVOLVMENT. Example: I am a leader in a service club. I will list that service club for my service reference and my leadership reference. I cannot use that club to meet my activity requirement and my service requirement.
